Photo No. 4 of 7

My friend Amy and I found a cache of bones on the beach at Ocracoke. Turtle maybe? Whatever, it was a bit late for first aid.

Finesse

I'm thrilled with - filled with - color. I must have worked for an hour on placing the gray fence piece over red smoke. It needed to peak out somehow...

Tomorrow: Photo week begins, a collection of studio-made close-ups.

Two fer

Yesterday also got away from me. I meant to post this collage, one of my favorites - the big black and white piece is a detail from a cowboy wall, courtesy of National Geographic, Dec. 2007.

The drawing is from a small series of staffs, spears and pencils I made last year. The gray smudge - as are all my gray smudges - is a thundercloud I encountered one summer night flying from Virginia to New York. As we passed through I could see the angry god fussing and snapping inside, finally arcing lightening out to the ground. Hot.

A plain ol' day

Art gets away from me sometimes ... sometimes for a LONG time. Travel, health, work and family conspire to fill up everything.

Today I exhale and take up the pen, the scissors. Good to be home.

Over-thinking

Aardvark Farmer commented on the 'work in progress' I posted 2 days ago ... he was right, it was too complicated. But here I am over-thinking it. Sigh.

The bad thing about working in a sketchbook? Everything I do is in there, in chronological  order.

The good thing about sketchbooks? Everything I do is in there, in chronological order.

Paste it down, look, learn and move on. Revisit as needed.

Rise up

Recently I was researching ciabatta recipes (after a monumental failure on my part) and saw some cool images of bread dough rising high inside clear glass containers... lots of holes where yeast was working its magic.

Work in progress

I try to finish each piece during a day, but this one got away from me. Hope tomorrow I remember where I was going with it. I am thinking about something Hal said: It needs WHITE. (It always needs white.)

Still life

I love mixing human-created objects with organic shapes and textures.
